To change one’s life:
1) Start immediately 2) Do it flamboyantly 3) No exceptions Author - William James As I began to write this blog, I came across this saying which I thought was perfect for what I wanted to write about – Key to making a Change. Almost all clients that hire me for coaching are looking to make a change in their lives. They want to figure out their path or just make a change in their current life so that they get what they want. • Get paid more money • Buy a bigger home • Start a business • Lose weight / become healthy • Find a good husband/wife/partner When I think of the 2 key ingredients to success, I think Courage and Confidence. An equal part of these is a must for anyone to be successful in meeting the goal they set out to achieve. Courage is the quality that helps you battle and overcome the challenges outside of you. It’s needed to manage the external obstacles. Confidence is the quality that helps you battle and overcome the challenges inside of you. It’s needed to manage the internal obstacles. Most people focus and give importance to inculcating Courage, it’s the popular child. It’s a common misconception that that’s all that you need to grow and move forward. Building and strengthening Confidence is a forgotten art. And people wonder why they fail to feel better when they are trying so hard. As a Coach, we address the all important Confidence first. This is where your belief is built. When you question what feels right to you or doubt if you deserve it, it’s Confidence that helps you battle these internal demons. In my personal experience, it’s the lack of confidence that allows Fear and Doubt to make residence. And when you have fear and doubt you are left paralysed and over time a lot issues stem up. When using any self help technique, it’s important to travel inwards, peel the layers and to try and understand where it stems from. Once that is understood it’s easier to change your thoughts about it and start building a new belief system, one that serves you! Self Confidence is the first requisite to great undertakings. Samuel Johnson. Self Confidence, like everything else, is about balance. Just like Lack of Confidence does not serve you, Over Confidence can easily tip you over to arrogance which will not serve you either. Having said that, no matter where you stand, you need to commit to the journey of self discovery. Find a partner who will walk this journey with you. So I ask you, "How Confident are you really?".
